Tango Takahashi

arrangement of Tango from "For Love of the Double Bass"
Duration: 3:00
Date of Arrangement: 1999

PROGRAM NOTES: Tango Takahashi is an arrangement of an earlier Tango, originally conceived for computer-synthesizer playback during a scene of my theater piece, For Love of the Double Bass.  In this case, arrangement from computer piece to piano piece didn’t require much modification.  Still, it requires a virtuosic effort from the pianist, despite its modest dimensions.  This arrangement was made for Aki Takahashi in celebration of her visit to Hartford, Connecticut (a good 24-hours by plane from her Tokyo home) in November 1999.  She had come on this long trek to record my Third Piano Sonata, which was also written for her.   -James Sellars
